Chandy participated in the ‘inti intiki Congress’ programme in West Godavari
Congress party in-charge of Andhra Pradesh, Oommen Chandy, ruled out any kind of political alliance for the 2019 state and general elections. The Congress party, which suffered a humiliating defeat in Andhra Pradesh in the 2014 elections not winning a single seat, is trying to revive itself.
On Tuesday, Chandy participated in the ‘inti intiki Congress’ programme in West Godavari district. The former Kerala chief minister, along with other senior leaders, visited a total of 300 homes in three constituencies and interacted with people and also collected Re 1 donation for party fund.
“The farmers are unhappy as they are not getting the support price. There are no social security schemes like the ones introduced in Kerala. The youth are frustrated since employment is a big issue. The congress manifesto will include promises to address these issues,” said Chandy.
According to Chandy, 50 per cent of the total 44,000 booth committee have been formed in Andhra Pradesh and the rest will be formed before the end of this month.
The mood in Andhra Pradesh is changing as people have started realising that only Congress can give the special category status, Chandy said. He also informed that former congress president Sonia Gandhi has been invited to the state to attend an event on Indira Gandhi’s birthday.
