Civic agency has signed deal with Bengaluru-based company which will set up a 50-tonne plant to produce electricity

Civic agency has signed deal with Bengaluru-based company which will set up a 50-tonne plant to produce electricity

In a bid to ensure regular processing of waste in the city, the BBMP has set rolling plans to establish an incinerator plant. The incinerator plant, to be set up by a Bengaluru-based company, will treat dry and wet leaves collected in the city and convert it into electricity.

BBMP has signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the company. The plant can handle about 50 tonnes of dry and wet leaves a day. It is planned to be set up at BBMP land in Koramangala. The BBMP will supply leaves collected from sweeping in the city to the plant and it would be converted into energy on a daily basis.

The Palike is currently undertaking all the other necessary procedures and agreements for the project. It is working out for instance an agreement to sell the energy produced from the project. Once all the pacts are in place, work on the plant will start. The BBMP will only provide required infrastructure for the project and the company will operate the plant. A BBMP official told Bangalore Mirror, “The MoU has been signed and the officials are currently processing other required agreements in the project. We will provide them the space in Koramangala ward where they will install their plants. Currently, we are in talks about the fare and energy processing model and preparing the agreement draft. We will soon enter into an agreement with the electric supply company. We believe the plant will be operational in three months.”
