Apart from the conservative form of schools, Bangalore has also a very large option of alternate schools. These schools have moved away from the traditional methodology of teaching, and here the children are allowed to learn and explore in a more carefree and informal environment. Most of these schools follow the principle of the renowned philosopher J. Krishnamurti who believed that "Tradition becomes our security and where the mind is secure, it begins to decay". These schools do not follow the traditional method of yearly assessments. The students appear for the IGCSE and A Level exams at the end of Class X and XII.
